Tanya Spates Fluman Named 2024 Nurse of the Year

Hoag Orthopedic Institute’s 2024 Nurse of the Year, Tanya Spates-Fluman RN, is recognized for her professional and clinical excellence. She is passionate about providing quality care and has played a pivotal role in developing our Day of Surgery Discharge Program (DOS). As the DOS Charge Nurse, Tanya is instrumental in leading her team to create a healing environment for our patients and their support persons.

"Tanya is extremely compassionate, thoughtful, caring, and is an exceptional nurse. She puts the needs of our patients and her staff before her own. Members of her staff have stated she is part of the reason they love coming to work every day."

Tanya's nursing journey is a testament to her dedication and commitment. She joined Hoag Hospital in 1999, and in 2012, she became an integral part of Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI). With a nursing career spanning 28 years, Tanya's experience and expertise have been invaluable to our team.

Tanya’s team shares that she is an inspirational nurse leader who encourages them to practice at the top of their license to provide quality care. Tanya’s compassion and caring make a difference in our patients’ lives. Tanya is also an innovator, looking for opportunities to improve patient experience. She led a team to implement the opioid safe disposal program “Dispose RX” here at HOI. Tanya won an award at the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses Conference for “Excellence in Education” for her Safe Disposal Program poster presentation.
