About Dr. Vivek A. Mehta

Dr. Mehta is a board-certified, fellowship-trained spine surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery. He specializes in a broad range of spinal conditions employing the latest techniques and advances. He has particular expertise in surgical alternatives to fusion including spinal neuromodulation, a cutting-edge technique to treat patients who have failed previous spine surgery. With a background in both orthopedic spine and neurosurgery spine training, Dr. Mehta tailors treatment options to each patient with their goals as the No. 1 priority.

He was born and raised in Orange County and completed medical school at the top of his class at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine/Johns Hopkins Hospital, ranked #1 by US News and World Reports for 20 consecutive years. In college, he was named to the USA Today All-Academic First Team as one of the top 20 college students in the United States. He completed spine surgery training with orthopedic and neurosurgeons at the University of Southern California where he was the Team Neurosurgeon for the USC Trojans Football Team. Prior to joining Hoag, he was an attending neurosurgeon at the University of Southern California/Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurosurgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine.
