Hospital Awarded for Achieving and Sustaining Excellence in Patient Experience
IRVINE, Calif. (November 18, 2019) – Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), one of the largest providers of orthopedic care in the nation, is pleased to announce it has been named a 2019 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey, making it the sixth consecutive year that HOI has been a recipient of the accolade. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in Patient Experience.
The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in health care. Presented annually, the award honors clients who consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients for each reporting period during the course of one year.
“In today’s health care environment, patient experience is just as important as high-quality clinical care,” said Jennifer Mitzner, president of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “We are honored, once again, to receive this distinguished award from Press Ganey.”
This year, Hoag Orthopedic Institute introduced its “HOI Signature Experience” initiative, featuring spa-style robes and blankets, and a complementary array of distinctive amenities to choose from, among other investments the institute has made to enhance the experience for patients and visitors alike. California’s highest volume provider of total hip and knee replacements for the past six years is making the investment, which will also include calming music in recovery rooms, essential oils to reduce nausea or anxiety and warm washcloths, with the aim of more closely resembling a posh vacation, as they transition from injury to recovery. HOI, which already has some of the highest quality scores based on the most common reporting metrics, is looking to create a truly unique experience for its patrons, using personalized goals to further customize the experience for its joint replacement patients, inspiring them to meet their post-surgery goals.
“Since our founding, HOI recognized that patients have a choice in their health care, and we are investing in enhancing their experience in a highly personalized and customized way unlike any other institution,” said Jennifer Mitzner, CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute.
"Congratulations to Hoag Orthopedic Institute for receiving the Guardian of Excellence Award,” said Patrick T. Ryan, Executive Chairman of Press Ganey. “This honor reflects their unwavering commitment to improving the safety, quality, and experience of care. Their hard work and dedication are inspiring, and we are proud to partner with them on our shared mission to reduce patient suffering.”
