Hoag Orthopedic Institute is the Only Hospital in Southern California to Earn ‘5-Star Rating’ for Patient Experience from CMS

Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), which performs the most hip and knee joint replacement surgeries in California, is the only hospital in Southern California to receive a five-star rating for patient experience from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) after a nationwide assessment through its recent Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) star ratings.

“We are honored that our patients recognized our staff for their exemplary work and dedication to creating a patient-centered, healing environment at Hoag Orthopedic Institute,” said Jennifer Mitzner, CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “Receiving CMS’ highest rating for patient experience is a nod to the culture of empowerment and excellence we strive for to ensure each patient has the best outcome.”

The hospital is only one of 266 in the U.S., and one of 10 in California, to earn the top five-star distinction for patient experience, which is issued annually through CMS’ Hospital Compare tool. According to CMS, the hospital rating is designed to provide individuals, their family members, and caregivers an easily understandable way to compare hospitals.

“We applaud CMS for its efforts to improve transparency and are confident that these ratings will help those in need of medical services make the best decision for their care,” added Mitzner. “As more individuals begin paying closer attention to outcomes scores and ratings like these, we’re confident that HOI can provide them the highest quality, patient-centered care.”

Hoag Orthopedic Institute, the highest volume provider of joint replacements in California, has received consistent recognition from various publications and health care organizations for its patient-focused services since opening in 2010, including topping the U.S. News Best Hospitals List in 2019-2020; 2018-2019; 2017-2018; 2013-2014 and 2012-2013.
