Hoag Orthopedic’s Adult Reconstruction and Total Joint Replacement Fellowship program has received American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Fellowship recognition from the organization’s Fellowship Committee and Board of Directors.
Hoag Orthopedics, the non-profit, education and research organization founded by Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) physicians, has conducted an adult reconstruction and total joint replacement fellowship program since 2012, and this newly available accreditation from the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) demonstrates their dedication to providing the highest quality educational and training experience to support AAHKS’s core values and goal of producing technically skilled, highly qualified hip and knee surgeons.
Hoag Orthopedic Institute is among the first in the nation to receive this recognition.
“This national recognition validates our mission to help train the next generation of orthopedic surgeons in joint replacement and adult reconstruction,” said Robert Gorab, MD, one of the founding physicians of HOI, Tom & Mayumi Adams Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Surgery, and Program Chairman of the Hoag Orthopedics Joint Arthroplasty Fellowship program. “As one of the nation’s leading providers of joint replacement surgeries, HOI provides an engaging, positive and technically skilled team of orthopedic surgeons committed to train future surgeons.”
The Adult Reconstruction and Total Joint Replacement faculty train two orthopedic surgeons in the fellowship program each year. The Fellowship curriculum is designed to provide a sound clinical education and ensure graduates meet quality standards set forth by AAHKS. The program has an active academic structure that includes a research requirement and regular didactics, case conferences, journal club meetings, and grand rounds.. The fellowship also has requirements for a significant number of both outpatient and inpatient surgical procedures.
